For most of my career, I kept my bipolar disorder a secret for fear of retaliation in the workplace. Yet, having chaired my department and taught studio arts through the pandemic I became witness to the power of the arts to foster wellness within individuals and communities. My desire to help others and create awareness gave me the courage to begin to share my own experience with bipolar disorder with my students. I entered Introspective Self-Portrait in Insights VI, an exhibit held by the Ryan Licht Sang Bipolar Foundation at the Zolla Lieberman Gallery. This print is now part of their private collection.
